Finite element analysis of a concrete apartment complex reinforced with steel columns using Spacio to capture architectural concepts and additionally using Vray for renders and Robot Structure for analysis. The building was analyzed under only a dead load of self weight to reflect general behavior of structure and to emphasize its programmatic versatility. The concrete slabs are reinforced with .26 square inch area every 1 foot and the columns are custom made and custom manufactured.
This design of an apartment / entertainment building located in an urban environment serves as an investigation in architectural design/rendering as well as the workflow involved in structural analysis by way of Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis. The building was modeled in Rhinoceros and rendered in Vray and eventually imported into Robot for structural concepts.
These images serve to show a structural relationship with the framing of the SUNY Buffalo School of Biomedical Sciences framing and applied loads under various conditions. Bentley RAM Structural System was utilized for finite element methods and beam/column interactions. Vray was utilized for all renders.
The Industrial house is comprised of a bottom floor with lofted second floor and a bedroom on the roof level. It is structurally made up of HSS tubes connected by I-beams and has complete moment connections to resist lateral forces. HSS Tubes were chosen to complement the industrial nature of the building.
Agris house is comprised of a distinct longitudinal and linear outhouse fused to a rectilinear and diagonal dwelling. The building consists of three stories of living space and an in door swimming pool. It features a lateral system at its core which utilizes moment connections and resists torsion due to wind and seismic considerations.
The Darma Music School located in Pennsylvania features a program that consists of two large music rooms with seamless glass frontal exposure, a large porch with benches, and a corridor waiting area. The structure consists of composite concrete and steel structures and features a moment connection lateral system. This school serves as a design study in both architectural rendering, architectural modeling, and structural analysis.
